MSC Maritime Art Prize & Exhibition: The Relationship of Humanity to the Sea

Festivals and Celebrations

19 Oct 2021 to 31 Oct 2021 Annual Event

The MSC Mission to Seafarers’ Maritime Art Prize & Exhibition is an international competition that has been hosted at the heritage-listed Mission building in Melbourne’s Docklands for nineteen years and is returning once again in 2021. Due to COVID restrictions, the exhibition will be held online and a selection of winning entries will be on display when the building re-opens in November.

Last year more than 200 entries were received and 107 were shortlisted from a highly competitive field – including a greater number of emerging artists than previous years – all of whom responded to the theme ‘The Relationship of Humanity to the Sea’. The jury were impressed with the high standard and diversity of entries, ranging from traditional to contemporary mixed media.

The annual event is a major fundraising initiative of the Mission to Seafarers Victoria (MtSV).

Entrants compete in five categories – Maritime Art Award, Best Traditional, Runner-Up, Emerging Artist and People’s Choice Award.

$10,000 – Maritime Art Award
$5,000 – Best in Traditional Maritime Art Award
$1,000 – Emerging Artist Award
$2,000 – People’s Choice Award
$2,000 – Runner-Up Award

2021 winners will be announced via an online ceremony on Thursday 14 October at 6:00pm.

Exhibition Online: Friday 15 to Sunday 31 October 2021
