Open Garden at Sunnymeade in Anglesea

Exhibition and Shows

18 Jan 2020 to 19 Jan 2020

Visit this inspirational, award-winning garden surrounding a stunning architect-designed home on the Surf Coast. Sunnymeade, created by the talented plantsman Peter Shaw of Ocean Road Landscaping uses a formal design incorporating extensive drystone walls, a sunken garden, fire pit and sculptures.

This is not your ‘traditional’ garden space, the extraordinary sculptured grass mounds and shrub plantings with a canopy of local Stringybark gums has great impact. Stone walls soften level changes around the house, and fields of grasses create natural clumps to connect the walls and gravel paths. Consequently the garden has a soft wavy feel.

At the bottom of the drive is a dramatic display of shrubs clipped into balls. A pistachio tree shades the front door and a living screen connects the buildings and the landscape. A delightful Moonah forest has been planted at the back of the garden.

Talks will be given on the open days at 3.00pm. Saturday 27 January – Peter Shaw from Ocean Road Landscaping – on creating coastal gardens. Sunday 28 January – Nick Day from Otway Indigenous Nursery – on using indigenous plants in the garden.
