Paris or Die: The Show
Events Beechworth, Indigo, Victoria
27 Mar 2021 to 28 Mar 2021 Once Only Event
A solo show which draws on physical theatre, storytelling and improvisation to recount Jayne Tuttle’s journey to Paris, the vibrant and dizzying neighbourhood she found herself in, living in a former monastery, studying at a famous theatre school, falling in love with a Frenchman too beautiful to be real. And then the strange event, one night, that nearly kills her.
Paris. The beauty. The grime. The colours and thoughts and songs and sounds and children and dogs. The taste of strawberries, the sky, first métro, last métro, the bells, the dreams.
Author and performer Jayne Tuttle graduated from the Lecoq Theatre School in Paris in 2006. She has performed with the Sydney Theatre Company, The Rabble and in co-devised plays in Dublin, Paris, Berlin and Portugal.
John Bolton is an award-winning director, performer and teacher, and is currently an Associate Artist at the VCA. He graduated from Lecoq in 1979.
The Show is a COVID-baby. When the promotional tour for Jayne’s memoir – Paris or Die – was cancelled, she and John started to wonder…. what if they made something new?
The book has been brought to life, its words plunged and explored to reveal the worlds behind them. The worlds of Paris, love, friendship, loss, art and passion. A story of writing, of living, and of theatre itself.
