Regional Viability: Should migrants be required to live in regional towns?

Classes, Lessons, Workshops and Talks

4 Apr 2019

What makes a regional area viable? And how do we guarantee this viability?

Compulsory regional migration is a topic often proclaimed by politicians as a key strategy for boosting regional economic development. But has it worked in the past? What would it need to work in the future? And, importantly, how do the humans at the centre of this argument feel?

Join for a thought provoking discussion on whether migrants should be required to live and work regionally, featuring: Dr Jennifer Jones, Historian (facilitator), Dr Helen Lee (anthropologist), Associate Professor Bruce Pennay (Historian), Cr Anna Speedie (Wodonga Mayor), Swathi Mahendran (Albury-Wodonga Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 and recent migrant) and Dr Sallie Yea (Honorary Research Fellow at La Trobe University).

Registrations from 5:45 pm, event starts 6:00pm.
