SHIT is a compelling, raw and powerful play which examines the intersections of class and misogyny. It is provocative and tragic, heart-breaking and bitterly funny.
What happens when a girl spits, or swears, or screams, or shouts, or pulls down her pants to moon someone from a car? If she laughs too loudly, cuts her hair too short, or if she fights – really fights? Out of control girls, angry girls, nasty girls are a sight to behold. They are terrifying, electrifying, they are everything girls shouldn’t be, and we hate them. Billy, Bobby and Sam are three such girls. They do not believe in anything. They are mean, foul-mouthed, downtrodden, hard-bitten, utterly damaged women.
They believe the world is shit, that their lives are shit, that they are shit.
Critically acclaimed as one of the best plays and productions on Australian stages in 2016 and 2017, SHIT is a four-time Green Room Award winner (Best Production, Best Ensemble, Best Writer, Best Set and Costume Design). It has enjoyed five sold out seasons at fortyfive downstairs, NEON Festival for Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Festival and Darwin Festival.
This production contains nudity and very coarse language. Recommended for mature audiences.
