Learn the basics of tapestry weaving and create your own woven wall hanging at this hands-on Melbourne course. Over three weeks, you will learn the different aspects of tapestry weaving with tapestry weaver and fibre artist Catherine Hallam.
In this beginner-friendly course, you will start with the basics of warping up, weaving and creating designs on a frame loom. You will also learn how to create and work with shapes in your designs, as well as techniques for creating texture and experimenting with colours.
Tapestry is a versatile craft that allows you to explore your own style, so once you get the hang of these techniques, the possibilities are endless.
Overview of the course:
April 8: Basics of tapestry weaving – In this class, you will learn what materials and fibres you can weave with and what tools you can use. You will learn techniques like warping up, rya knots, basic weaving and basic design.
April 15: Shape and texture – In this class, you will learn how to work with different shapes and textures. You will learn what to consider with vertical shapes, creating circles and rounded shapes.
