Virtuosic percussionist, Terri Lyne Carrington brings her stunning new social consciousness project Social Science to Melbourne for an unmissable Australian premiere event.
A multi Grammy Award-winning drummer, composer and bandleader, Carrington has cultivated an impressive range of musical collaborators over her 30-year career, from folk doyenne Joni Mitchell to pop sensation Stevie Wonder, and luminaries of the jazz world including Stan Getz, Cassandra Wilson, Esperanza Spalding, Dianne Reeves, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau and Herbie Hancock.
Hot on the heels of her ground-breaking, all-female Mosaic Project, Carrington has turned her considerable energy towards addressing issues of freedom, racism, sexism, fluidity, and multiculturalism. Joining forces with MC Kassa Overall and vocalist Débo Ray, Carrington and her handpicked lineup of musical collaborators will draw you into a world of lush compositions, influenced by jazz, indie rock, contemporary classical and R&B, and rearranged in the joyous, sweeping style of freeform improvisation.
Experience this extraordinary music up close and personal at an intimate Festival-exclusive club series across the opening weekend.
