The Club is an iconic Australian film starring Jack Thompson, Graham Kennedy, Frank Wilson, John Howard and Alan Cassell.
When a struggling Aussie Rules Club buys a talented young footballer for a record sum, friction immediately develops between the devoted coach, the insecure club president, the over-the-hill captain, and the scheming committee man. Set in the golden era of the AFL, when teams played for the jumper not the money.
Music theme song “Up there Cazaly” by Mike Brady. Screenplay by David Williamson. Directed by Bruce Beresford who turned the play on which the film was based, into a spirited and, at times, a comic film about the politics of professional sport.
