The Beach House Geelong
Food and Drink Geelong, Greater Geelong, Victoria
The Beach House Geelong is by the Melbourne-based Mulberry Group, responsible for now-sold cafe icons such as The Kettle Black, Higher Ground and Top Paddock. Its current portfolio includes CBD venues Liminal, Hazel and Dessous.
Studio Esteta (the team behind the look of Lune Croissanterie) transformed the brick 1920s seaside changing room into a modern, light-filled all-day eatery. Inside there’s a large, airy space overlooking the action on the beach. The colour palette mirrors that view – with a largely sandy colour scheme accented by the brilliant blues of the sea and sky.
Upstairs wind down on the balcony with panoramic views of the Geelong water front. This space is a collection of furniture from ‘The House of Orange’. Affectionately named ‘Bathers at the Beach House’ after its original name in the 1920’s ‘Bathers Pavilion’ enjoy a selection of crafted cocktails and local beers while snacking on a simple menu of school prawns and beetroot carpaccio sourced from their sister venue ‘Common Ground Project’.
If you’re looking for something more casual, get something to take away from the kiosk. In addition to that all-important beach classic – fish and chips – there’s a range of smaller treats, coffees and smoothies. Once you’ve got your takeaway box, find a comfy spot on the grass slopes nearby and tuck in.
