The Lily Stirling Range

Cottages

So close to the Stirling Range, The Lily is your perfect base to explore the region.

The Lily Dutch windmill is an authentic 16th-century design brick ‘ground-sail’ mill. The five-storey full-size windmill with its 22-ton capacity and a sail length of 24.6 metres, is one of the largest traditional windmills ever built in Australia. The mill is a fully operational windmill producing wholemeal stone-ground spelt flour for IGA stores, health shops, commercial bakers and home users around Australia.

At The Lily, you will find unique self-contained accommodation next to the 16th-century replica Dutch houses and the reception, situated in the originally relocated 1924 Federation-style railway station from Gnowangerup.

The Lily also offers the opportunity to stay in a true icon of aviation, an original 1944 DC3 Dakota C47 Gooney Bird – a stay to remember.

The Lily airstrip is adjacent to the windmill and you are able to park your own plane securely and close to the accommodation. Please check the airstrip details on their website.

A breakfast basket is available for accommodation guests for seven days.

Stay in a true icon of aviation – an original 1944 Dakota. Although it won’t fly you to tropical destinations any more, they do believe it will provide you with a level of comfort and luxury that is ‘more first-class than first class’.

History in a nutshell – their plane was built in 1943/44 in Long Beach California and was issued to the Netherlands East Indies Transport Section, based in Brisbane, Queensland, where it was used for transport duties on behalf of the Royal Dutch Indonesian Airways (KNILM). The aircraft operated supply flights for Dutch military units, and later the airlifting of liberated Dutch Prisoners of War from New Guinea to Australia.
