City of York Bay

Natural Attractions

The City of York Bay is a secluded area on the north-western side of Rottnest Island, where you can enjoy the peace and explore some maritime history.

It was named after an iron ship that sank after hitting a reef off Rottnest Island in the last few kilometres of its voyage from San Francisco to Fremantle, Western Australia.

Learn about the shipwreck, and then snorkel along the serrated reef that was the cause of its destruction. Stop by on the Karlinyah Bidi walk trail, visit by bike or take the Island Explorer Bus.
