Collie Art Gallery

Galleries, Museums and Collections

The Collie Art Gallery opened in 2015 as a centre for art and artists. It is the first fit-for-purpose A-class gallery to be built since the Art Gallery of Western Australia was opened in 1979.

The gallery showcases diverse talent and achievement as well as hosting a range of programs and events. The design includes 150 square metres of gallery space, a 50-square-metre studio and storage and working space designed to allow the gallery to host exhibitions of national and international significance.

Collie Art Gallery was built as part of the Shire of Collie’s SuperTowns program. The Arthur Boyd exhibition was followed by an exhibition of the Collie Collection. The Collie Collection comprises works from renowned Australian artists Norman Lindsay, Guy Grey Smith, Elizabeth Durack, Arthur Boyd (senior) and a host of others. The cornerstone of the collection is the Claude Hotchin bequest, 36 works of art gifted to the people of Collie by Claude Hotchin in 1954.

The gallery also offers a unique range of mainly handmade crafts and artwork by local artisans for sale in the gallery’s gift shop.

Collie is located 202 kilometres southeast of Perth and 58 kilometres inland from Bunbury.
