Wellington Dam

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Arrive at Wellington Dam and walk to The Quarry, Wellington Dam Lookout and Kiosk at the Dam or take the 9.8-kilometre Sika Trail.

Walk along the Wellington Dam walkway for a different perspective of Guido van Helton’s magnificent mural. The walkway is open daily 9 am – 5 pm.

The Quarry picnic area is located at the site of the 1930s and 1950s construction camps where unique engineered concrete and stone picnic shelters and lookout are now recognised for their heritage values while the former dam caretaker house is now a cafe.

Painted by artist Guido Van Helten, the dam wall mural is believed to be the world’s largest. The artwork is called ‘Reflections’ and is inspired by local stories and photos.

There are campgrounds nearby and plenty of walk and mountain bike trails to enjoy.
