Misery Beach

Natural Attractions

A 5-hour drive from Perth along Western Australia’s captivating southern coastline is Misery Beach, recently crowned Australia’s best beach by Tourism Australia’s Beach Ambassador, Brad Farmer. Once best known for its proximity to Albany’s historic whaling station (the township is just 20 kilometres away) this peaceful paradise captivates with its immense beauty.

There are more than 11,000 beaches in Australia, but one glance at Misery Beach and you’ll have no doubt why it earned the accolade of Australia’s best. At 200 metres long, this compact stretch of beach is utterly compelling, offering the opportunity to experience a range of outdoor activities while surrounded by stunning natural beauty.

Swim, surf or snorkel clear turquoise waters, or spend the afternoon fishing. Laze on pristine white sands shielded by a dramatic granite backdrop, or explore this secluded sanctuary on a barefoot beach walk.

Chart a trail across Isthmus Hill headland for breathtaking views of the spectacular natural harbour at King George Sound and, on a clear day, gaze inland. You might even spot the rugged peaks of Stirling Range National Park, located 90 kilometres away in the Great Southern Region.

For an unforgettable start to your day, set off early to witness sunrise with a sky painted in soft pastel shades. Then, as Frenchman Bay Road turns into a gravel pathway, you’ll see magical Misery Beach unfurling ahead.
