No 1 Pump Station at Minderinjy on Whadjuk Nyoongar Country
Things To Do Mundaring, Mundaring, Western Australia
No 1 Pump Station at Minderinjy sits in an area known as Minderinjy to the local Whadjuk people at the foot of Mundaring Weir, which dams the Helena River, 39 kilometres east of Perth.
No 1 Pump Station at Minderinjy was the first of eight steam pump stations constructed as part of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, designed by CY O’Connor to transfer water over a distance of 560 kilometres from the Perth hills to the WA Goldfields to bring precious water to this notoriously dry part of the state.
A visit to No 1 Pump Station at Minderinjy offers an opportunity to explore one of Australia’s most significant industrial heritage sites and a showcase for the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme.
The No 1 Pump Station at Minderinjy is the starting point for The Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail. There are several walk and cycle trails around the weir precinct.
Mundaring Weir is less than an hour’s drive from Perth via Kalamunda or Midland.
