On The Verandah Kimberley Adventures

Cultural and Theme Tours

On The Verandah has been delivering creative adventures and workshops in the Kimberley since 2014.

Their holidays are designed with artists, photographers, writers and creatives in mind and are the only residential art workshops in the East Kimberley. The itineraries are a unique combination of creative workshop and adventure experience with insider access and bespoke, non-touristy experiences. Guests experience life on a remote cattle station, getting to know the owners and station hands along the way. They make friends and memories to last a lifetime and often return the following year for more adventures.

On The Verandah schedules just a handful of experiences each year, all with small groups (no more than 10) and are renowned for giving travellers an authentic slice of life in Kimberley.

The itinerary takes them off the beaten track into wilderness areas closed to the public, exploring the landscape, having unique experiences and meeting colourful characters.

Michael Herron tailors his teaching to your needs and encourages you to take your own path. He’ll mentor you in your work in the relaxed, peaceful settings. A workshop with Michael is a great opportunity to learn painting and drawing techniques from one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists.

Art sessions begin in the field at various locations offering different qualities and views. Sketch liberally on paper as you observe your early responses to the landscape. Building on that momentum, they develop larger works on paper or canvas in the shade of the verandahs. They cap off the week in Kimberley style with an informal art exhibition with bubbles and nibbles.

Of his workshops Michael says, “I like that you can feel the momentum, energy and excitement build in the group during the workshop. People get inspired by the place and the results they are getting.”
