The Yaburara Heritage Trail

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The Yaburara (pronouced Yabara) Heritage Trail is a series of four walking trails that meander around the hills of Karratha between the Visitor Centre Tank Hill lookout and the Leisureplex carpark.

The name Yaburara comes from the Aboriginal tribal people who lived on the Burrup Peninsula, and were massacred along the sea, only 29 years after the first colonial arrival. The massacres is now known as the Flying Foam Massacre.

Beginning at the Tank Hill end, you can take in a spectaclular view of the whole developing Karratha township. The four trails can be done all together or separately and will see you directed to various points of interest, including Aboriginal Shell Middens, Petroglyphs and Engraving sites as well as various vegetative states.
