Spirit of Place – Amanda Westley and Kudditji Kngwarreye

Exhibition and Shows

5 Apr 2019 to 28 May 2019

The stiking paintings by Amanda Westley and Kudditji Kngwarreye depict the distinctive qualities of their respective homelands using colour and composition to evoke Country. While Amanda reveals the south coast on Fleurieu Peninsul, Kudditji captures the moods of the Central Desert.

Amanda Westley returns for her second exhibition at Japingka Gallery. Amanda’s paintings evoke the coastal landscapes around her home country at Victor Harbor, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Cooyong in South Australia.

Kudditji’s style encompasses an abstract use of blocks of colour that put before us the sense of the seasons and the changes in the country. His paintings capture light and the tones that change through the hours of the day. Kudditji Kngwarreye is one of the great colourists of the Aboriginal Desert art movement.
