Why is it when we think of the piano it is always men at the forefront?
“Sing us a song, you’re the piano man…” Elton John, Billy Joel, Ben Folds, Tim Minchin: But where are the piano women? An exploration into the unknown stories of historic women pianists, from a successful Australian piano woman, Emma Knights.
The Piano Men is a look at the history of the piano and its women throughout history as well as a sharing of her own experiences as a female pianist without diminishing the works of the piano’s men. Part concert/part cabaret, The Piano Men, is a journey through time and genres and hopes to inspire young pianists to pursue their passions in music.
The Piano Men premiered in Edinburgh Fringe in 2018 and has been performed to sell-out crowds in Adelaide and in Melbourne. The show received 4.5 and 5-star reviews.
