Forest Hill Vineyard
Food and Drink Denmark, Denmark, Western Australia
This family-owned business is one of the oldest “new” winemaking operations in Western Australia and was the site of the first grape plantings in Great Southern in 1965 by the Department of Agriculture.
With its vineyards west of Mount Barker and cellar door further south, at Denmark, the Forest Hill brand became well known, added by the fact that the ’75 Riesling made by Sandalford from Forest Hill grapes won 12 gold medals and 9 trophies. It has an interesting pioneer history and was once owned by the Holmes a Court family of Vasse Felix in Margaret River. In 1996 the vineyards were bought by the Lyons family, the current owners and old farming family from the Great Southern.
The Block Series wines are sourced from old dry-grown vineyards, and the Riesling is often the recipient of medals and trophies at wineshows around the country.
Wine Tasting: Positioned beneath the Pepper and Salt restaurant, and built into a stone cellar.
Unique Highlights:
Picturesque setting, dramatic backdrop of Karri trees, fine dining restaurant, exceptional cool-climate wines.
