Port Hedland Port cruise terminal

Cruise Terminals and Airports

The port of Port Hedland is the largest bulk export port in the Southern Hemisphere, and it’s as rich in nature, culture and history as it is in mammoth mining operations. Renowned as the friendliest town in the Pilbara, Port Hedland invites you to experience the Staircase to the Moon and some of Australia’s top spots for fishing, whale watching and turtle encounters.

An easy one-kilometre walk from Port Hedland Port brings you to the town centre, and if you’re taking a scenic flight, a taxi gets you to the airport in 10 minutes.

You’ll get some of the best insights by joining a local guide on a journey through the town’s proud heritage and history, or visiting the local Aboriginal art studios to meet the artists in residence and learn about their country.

Time your visit between October and January to catch a glimpse of nesting flatback turtles, or December and March to take a guided walking tour and see the hatchlings make their maiden voyage to the sea.

Head up to Cooke Point if you’re visiting on a full moon and low tide between March and October to witness the natural phenomenon of the Staircase to the Moon.
