Joondalup

Suburb

Situated near Joondalup Lake and surrounded by native bushland and nature trails, Joondalup is a vibrant hub in Perth’s northern suburbs, with some of the region’s best beaches tantalisingly close-by.

If you’re travelling from Perth, you can take a train or drive north on the Mitchell Freeway. Either way, it takes just 25 minutes to reach this bustling commercial centre and shopping hotspot, home to a host of high street stores, fashionable boutiques and specialty shops.

Venture outside the city and you’ll discover an equally impressive range of natural attractions.

For a bushland experience, head for nearby Lake Joondalup within Yellagonga Regional Park. Here, a network of walking and cycling trails give you the ideal opportunity to get up close to the area’s native flora and fauna. Choose from one of the many parks for a barbeque or picnic and watch the abundant birdlife on and around the lake. You might even get to meet the friendly kangaroos.

To the west lies the picturesque coastline. Take a stroll or cycle along the coastal path, keeping an eye out for dolphins and rays in the aqua waters of the Indian Ocean. Or pack a picnic and take your pick from some of Perth’s many white sandy beaches, such as the popular swimming beach at Mullaloo.

As a busy commercial centre, Joondalup boasts all the amenities you could wish for, from banks and medical facilities to sporting venues and an array of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Similarly, the area boasts accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets, including a golfing resort, luxury apartments and bed and breakfasts.

Time your visit to coincide with the Joondalup Festival in March and you’ll be treated to two days of non-stop street entertainment, with street parades, live bands, dancers, circus shows, buskers, extreme sports and activities for young children, all culminating in a live concert and fireworks finale.
