Historical Sites and Heritage Locations
The Bathurst Flagstaff commemorates the proclamation of Bathurst as a settlement by Governor Macquarie on May 7th, 1815. The flagstaff was reinstalled on May 7th, 2015 as a part of the Bathurst Bicentennial Celebrations. The flagstaff features the original plaque that was a part of the original flagstaff at the Proclamation Cairn, beneath the flag in the glass pyramid. Around the viewing platform are etched glass panels featuring handprints of local Aboriginal children, Elders and Wiradjuri designs of Girawu (the Tree Goanna) and Biladurang (Platypus) dreaming. At night the flagstaff pyramid is illuminated.
See the flagstaff as a part of the Macquarie/Wambuul River walk.
