The Road Builders Memorial in Lilianfels Park, Katoomba

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

As a Centenary Project for 2005, The Rotary Club of Katoomba donated a five-sculpture group as a memorial to the Convict Road builders who first pushed a road across the Blue Mountains in 1814. The statues are one and a half times life size and are located in Lilianfels Park near Echo Point in Katoomba.

By clicking on a QR code, a series of audio snatches bring the statues to life with their own stories of how it is that they are working on the road, to raise the profile of Rotary and increase knowledge of the hardships of Convict Road builders.

Funds raised through this initiative will be used for Katoomba Rotary’s ongoing projects of Breakfast for North Katoomba Primary School, Swimming Classes for disadvantaged students, end of year prizegiving for all the area’s schools, and the commitment to International Student Exchange in which we have been participating for 20 years.
