Walka Water Works

National Parks and Reserves

Walka Water Works is a popular picnic and recreation area steeped in history. The old pumping station was built in 1887, and the complex features a striking chimney and ornate brickwork. It is one of the largest and most intact 19th Century industrial complexes in the Hunter Valley.

The large lake area has over 300 species of birdlife to observe and walking trails surround the lake.

While parts of the site remain closed for remediation, there will be temporary fencing in place to keep the community safe. For further details surrounding the ongoing remediation works please see the Maitland City Council website.
