Walkabout with Warren

Cultural and Theme Tours

Uncle Warren Taggart, a Wonnarua elder and knowledge holder, runs tours for small groups to Aboriginal sites including the Baiame Cave – a heritage-listed Aboriginal site of national significance.

Other site visits on Wonnarua country may include caves with paintings and drawings, rock engraving sites, axe and spear groove work sites and culturally significant topographical features in the landscape. Uncle Warren loves to share his knowledge about Wonnarua Aboriginal culture.

Much of Uncle Warren Taggart’s cultural knowledge has come from his father who spent most of his life in the bush in the Singleton region. Uncle Warren is a respected member of the Aboriginal community and has worked to share his cultural knowledge with many schools. He is a member of the Wonnarua Land Council and a custodian of the Baiame Cave.

In 2018, Uncle Warren was inducted into the Wambo Coal Singleton Hall of Fame for community service and in 2022 was recognised as Singleton Citizen of the Year. He is often invited to give the Welcome to Country for local events.

Uncle Warren is the author of the book, “Spirit of Pace – Aboriginal Sites of the Hunter Region”, 2022, and a collaborator of the exhibition, “Spirit of Place” at Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre that opened in June 2023.
