Driftboat fishing on the Tumut River is the premier experience offered at Tom’s Outdoors. The guides can cater for first-time and experienced anglers as well as all styles of fly fishing. All their guided days focus on tuition as well as catching trout to build better anglers.

For new anglers, they offer a specific learn to fly fish guided day. Your day will be broken up into drift boat fishing and bank fishing with a focus on basic casting skills, rigging various setups and how to understand currents or “reading water”. The day aims to equip you with the knowledge and understanding to fly fish by yourself, or with others and of course, to catch fish!

Drift Boating fishing on the Tumut River is the premier experience offered at Tom’s Outdoors. The guides can cater for first-time and experienced anglers as well as all styles of fly fishing. All their guided days focus on tuition as well as catching trout to build better anglers.

For more advanced anglers, their standard guided day builds on their beginners’ package and is tailor-made depending on conditions, angler preferences and location. The Tumut River is home to so many trout, in so many diverse environments that they can be targeted with multiple methods all trout-season long.

If you happen to be a dry-fly enthusiast there’s usually a trout or two (or ten) looking up. If you’d prefer to get deep and work on your nymphing skills, you can see if you can break some rainbow trout records. Whether you’re deep into hunting trophy brown trout with articulated streamers (hucking meat) then they are your people. If Spey (Or Skagit, or Scandi) is your style, the Tumut will let you stretch your casting arms.

Walking and wading the trout streams of the Snowy Mountains is not only an excellent fishing experience, it’s the perfect excuse to immerse yourself in one of the most picturesque environments in Australia. From the Western Slopes of the Snowy Valleys surrounding Tumut, all the way to the top of Australia in Kosciuszko National Park, Tom’s Outdoors Guide Services can guide you on a unique adventure. Walking and wading is the perfect way to push your sight fishing and stalking skills, chase a late-season trophy trout or get deep into the backcountry.

The guides can take you on a hiking journey to remote backcountry streams, tiny twig-water creeks and beautiful freestone, spring-fed and tailwater rivers. In spring, fish can be targeted during dun hatches with nymphs or dries. Summer sees the best of the hopper and other terrestrials hitting the water. Autumn has big brawling browns moving up the rivers for their annual migration and the possibility of a massive brown trout.

If you are just starting your fly fishing journey, their Beginners Drift Package is the best option; however, they can still cater packages for beginners on a walk and wade day.

The lakes and dams of the Snowies offer some of the best trout fishing, not just in Australia, but the world. These lakes and dams throughout Kosciuszko National Park can be accessed in a custom-built powerboat that is specifically set up for fly fishing. Tom’s Outdoors Guide Services specialises in Lake Eucumbene and Talbingo Dam. These lakes are home to numbers of rainbow and brown trout, as well as some of the biggest trout in Australia.

Fish a variety of methods on the lakes including polaroiding, stripping streamers on sinking lines, nymphing and of course dry fly fishing. Drift with the wind ‘loch’ style or hunt down fish on the edges. There is also the option to get out on the bank to take advantage of bays that provide exciting shallow-water fishing.

Lake Eucumbene and Talbingo Dam lakes are also open all year round, so if you’re itching to get out before the rivers open and you’d like to take advantage of some of the best fishing conditions available in late autumn, throughout winter and into early spring Tom’s Outdoors Guide Services can get you out and pulling in prime lake trout all year long.
