The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is Australia’s leading museum dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art from across Australia and around the world.
Located at Circular Quay, the MCA is housed in the former Maritime Services building, a fine example of late Art Deco architecture.
MCA features more than 4,000 works of Australian artists, including a strong emphasis on works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts a continually changing range of modern art exhibitions.
The MCA is a presenting partner of the 24th Biennale of Sydney, ‘Ten Thousand Suns’, a free exhibition held from 9 March to 10 June 2024. Some of the exhibiting artists include Serwah Attafuah, Robert Campbell Jnr, Irene Chou, Hayv Kahraman and Anne Samat.
Free guided tours of exhibitions are conducted each day by a MCA Volunteer. Check at the information desk on Level 1 for the scheduled tour times. Tours include audio descriptive and also Auslan tours.
The MCA Store is one of Sydney’s unique shopping destinations specialising in Australian and international contemporary art and culture publications, while the MCA Café offers modern Australian cuisine with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour.
