The Carrington
Food and Drink Surry Hills, Sydney, New South Wales
This legendary pub comes with character to spare, from the tiled walls to the stained glass and wooden floors. It’s split into three distinct spaces: Get cosy on leather couches in The Poke; soak up the sun in the Arthur Street garden bar; or enjoy a chat with one of the friendly bartenders in the Bourke Street bar.
The food is exactly what you want when you’re in a pub: things to snack on, then fill you up. Which means you can order burgers, salads, parmas, fish and chips, pastas and steaks, perhaps with a side of chilli-salt calamari and arancini balls. While the wine list is small, everything is available by the glass, and bartenders can whip up a mean cocktail.
Unlike many pubs in Sydney, The Carrington is family friendly. There’s a dedicated menu for kids, as well as one for your pooch, so you can enjoy a steak sandwich while Fido chows down on steak tartare and pup cakes.
