Gheebulum Kunungai (Moreton Island) National Park and Moreton Island Recreation Area camping

Caravan, Camping and Holiday Parks

Discover crystal-clear creeks and lagoons, coastal heath, rocky headlands, stunning wildflowers and stunning sandy beaches at Gheebulum Kunungai (Moreton Island) National Park and Moreton Island Recreation Area.

Visit Queensland’s first lighthouse at Cape Moreton, built in 1857 from island sandstone. Climb the southern hemisphere’s tallest vegetated sand dune, Mount Tempest, and be rewarded with panoramic views out over the bay. Wander through the ruins of Rous Battery and imagine life as a soldier living among the dunes.

Cool off in Blue Lagoon, a freshwater oasis set amid flowering heathland, perfect for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding. Come for the day or take your time on an extended camping adventure.

Come on foot, by ferry, boat or four-wheel drive and set yourself up in one of the camping areas along the coastal fringes of the island. With so many sites on offer, there’s bound to be one that suits you.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. See the website for details.
