Goondiwindi Botanic Gardens

Parks and Gardens

If you’re after rest and relaxation, enjoy the tranquillity of the local Botanic Gardens while exploring the diversity of bird life and Australia’s native flora and fauna in these 25-hectare gardens.

Situated on the western outskirts of Goondiwindi, the gardens are home to a living museum of the unique plant communities of the Upper Darling Basin. Native plants in the gardens are displayed in communities merging into each other as they occur in nature.

While there are many botanic gardens throughout Australia, few of them display only native plants and none of them exclusively feature the flora of a distinct catchment. The area from which the plants are drawn stretches from the mountains to the desert and hosts a wonderful variety of species.

Ideal for family recreation, the gardens have 2 hectares landscaped specifically for public recreation, with barbecue and playground facilities, shelter sheds, toilet amenities, all-weather gravel roads and ample car parking.

The garden also features a beautiful five-hectare lake with a nesting island for native birds such as the Wood Duck, Pelican and Spoonbill. The lake provides an area for all types of watersports, including swimming and canoeing.

The garden provides a centrepiece for recreation, giving a quiet and beautiful place to rest, play and enjoy the beauties of nature.
