Outback Date Farms is an Australian family owned and operated enterprise. 500 palms (soon to be 1000) grow delicious eating dates. Inspirational farmer Mark Hampel realised a long term dream when he established the plantation in 2014. He aims to showcase date production as an ideal horticultural industry for Australia’s arid zone. The innovative irrigation system utilises Charleville’s reclaimed water. Outback Oasis wetlands, an extensive system of channels, aeration and vegetation, are being created to further improve water quality and facilitate environmental sustainability. Tours, conducted April to October, cover the history of dates, how they are grown, and the incredible health benefits of this superfood. The farmer delivers information in an entertaining manner, and his wife’s home-cooked date loaf morning tea is very popular. Fresh dates and a variety of date products are available for sampling and purchase.

At present, there are 450 palms, growing delicious eating dates. An innovative irrigation system utilises Charleville’s waste water in an environmentally responsible manner. Check out the Outback Oasis wetlands that have been created recently. Farm tours are available from April to October.

Participants learn about the history of dates, how they are grown and harvested, and the incredible health benefits of this superfood. Fresh dates are available onsite for sampling and purchase. The farmer delivers information in an entertaining manner, with a sprinkling of anecdotes and jokes. His wife’s home-cooked date loaf morning tea has proven to be very popular!
