The Wombat Festival

Community Event

7 May 2024 to 12 May 2024 Annual Event

The Wombat Festival aims to use art and experiences to recognise the significance of Clermont, Queensland as the home of the critically endangered Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat.

The festival centres around May 11 which is recognised as the official day of the Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat which at one stage had only 30 of the marsupials left on the planet.

Past festivals have included whimsical wombat wire sculpture workshops, art installations and painting workshops which have resulted in a Wombat Art Show, Wombats under the Stars dinner and cocktail experience and Wombat Markets. A major hit in 2023 was the introduction of mini-wombat (Guinea pig) races.

Future plans include the incorporation of large scale wombat murals and sculptures.

The last remaining natural habitat of the NHN Wombat is located north of Clermont at Epping State Forest.
