Bedourie Outback Visitor Information Centre
Tourist Information & Services Bedourie, Diamantina, Queensland
Bedourie is an oasis in the desert and is located at the base of a sand dune surrounded by Eyre Creek.
It is one of three towns in the Diamantina Shire, covering 95,000 square kilometres, where only 14 stations and 283 residents make up this brilliant area of the sunshine state. The desert and the channel country combined with the teeming flora and fauna, make up one of the world’s most fragile and unique desert ecosystems. But for a small community, Bedourie has some truly excellent facilities and is known as the administrative centre of the Diamantina Region.
Bedourie is home to the famous ‘Bedourie Camp Oven’ which the Australian Government claimed is significant and ‘uniquely Australian’ in 2001 and is sold at the Visitor Centre year-round. You can even give them a call to pay over the phone and have it posted to you.
Visitors to Bedourie can relieve their aches and pains in the warm waters of the 22-person thermal artesian spa in which the water comes from the Bedourie Artesian Bore drilled back in 1905. This is truly one of the unique attractions to visit on your Outback Queensland road trip to the Diamantina and the far west.
