Russell Island

Urban

Be greeted by an amazing mosaic masterpiece that will set the mood for your visit to Russell Island, the largest of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. For fishing, there’s a jetty at the northern end of the island, with a nearby fenced swimming enclosure for cooling off on a hot day. High tide is best for swimming in tidal pools. Free camping is also available for maximum of three nights.

This is an ideal spot for picnicking in the foreshore park adjacent to the small beach. Sandy Beach is also a fantastic spot for fishing or simply relaxing on the grass, with nearby picnic tables, barbecue area and toilets. Adventurers can take a walk around Rocky Point and spot some of the local wildlife.

Go for a day trip or stay longer, venture in the freshwater wet heath area of Turtle Swamp, where the trees are home to dozens of species of birds and spring wildflowers are a pleasure to discover.

The Southern Moreton Bay Islands beaches are to be enjoyed for their peaceful tranquillity, with early mornings and evenings delightful in their picture postcard beauty.
