Catninga Mountain Camp Hut
Where To Stay Stirling North, Port Augusta, South Australia
Catninga Mountain Camp Hut is ideally suited for the adventure camper or Heysen Trail walkers looking for a camp with basic facilities. Enjoy a hot camp shower after a long days walk. The hut is 4WD (low range) accessible from Catninga Homestead for approved/accredited drivers.
Situated with in a two day section of the Heysen Trail between Horrocks Pass and Woolshed Flat, this rustic mountain hut offers a taste of the wilderness, yet still has a few basic comforts of home. Originally built as a crutching shed for “straggler” sheep missed at mustering time, the shed has been reborn as a camping location.
Relax and enjoy the magic of this beautiful piece of Australian bush. Feel like you are on top of the world while taking in the breathtaking views from many vantage points. Sit around the campfire, cook on the old wood oven, or gas barbecue. Soak up the ambiance, peace and quiet and let the world go by.
A short walk along the Heysen Trail takes you to Mount Brown summit where you can sign the visitor’s book and take in the spectacular views from the viewing platform.
