Karatta House

Bed and Breakfast

Set between Lake Butler Marina and Guichen Bay in beautiful Robe, Karatta House is a 19th Century home with a gorgeous view and a beachside location.

Karatta House was built in 1858 by grazier Henry Jones for his wife, Frances Eliza Caton Jones, and their children to escape the inland heat at their pastoral run, Binnum Binnum Station. Once a summer residence to the Governor of South Australia in the 1870s, Karatta House then served as a summer home for pastoralists from across the Limestone Coast until the late 1920s, when it was converted to a guesthouse. Karatta House is now a charming getaway by the sea, with stays in Karatta Cottage available now, and extensive renovations underway in the main house.

A romantic getaway across from the sparkling waters of Karatta Beach and overlooking Lake Butler Marina, Karatta Cottage is the perfect location for a couples’ getaway. It is full of historic seaside charm and is just as good for snuggling up on a grey rainy day in front of the fire with a good book and glass of wine as it is to enjoy in the summer months.
