Woorabinda Lake & Bushland Reserves

National Parks and Reserves

Just a short distance from the centre of the garden village of Stirling in the Adelaide Hills is Woorabinda Lake, part of Woorabinda Bushland Reserves. A 34-hectare park with approximately four kilometres of walking trails, lovely picnic spots and great opportunities for watching wildlife.

Take a walk around the reed-fringed wetland on paths and boardwalks, then continue through a cool woodland of stringybark eucalypts; home to resident koalas.

Originally constructed to supply water for steam locomotives, Woorabinda Lake is now a bushland oasis that provides a habitat for birds, fish, reptiles, mammals and amphibians. The reserves are of significant conservation and biodiversity value to the Adelaide Hills, and are cared for by Adelaide Hills Council, residents, community groups, schools and conservation groups. They form part of the Aldgate Creek catchment which feeds into the Onkaparinga River.

As you walk around Woorabinda Lake watch out for the mysterious poetry bench and if you visit on a Wednesday, you might be lucky enough to see members of the Stirling Marblehead Yacht Racing Club racing their beautiful remote-controlled boats.

Walk a small distance from Stirling centre (15 minutes) and enter the main reserve entrances from Ethel Street or Branch Road. It only takes a couple of minutes to drive from Stirling and 25 minutes from Adelaide city. You can park right by the lake on Woorabinda Drive.
