The Port Broughton Jetty was built in 1878. After extensive dredging of the channel, the Jetty was built to a length of 380 metres. It was primarily used to service vessels for the export of wheat. Larger windjammers would wait in the gulf to be loaded via the smaller ketches that would manually cart and load the grain bags from the jetty.
Today the jetty is used by both recreational and commercial fishing boats. You will quite often see the commercial Blue Swimmer Crab fleet tied up to the jetty
