Loxton’s Pepper Tree

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

There is more than one version of the ‘pepper tree story’. However, it is possible this tree was planted in 1878 from peppercorns collected by Bookpurnong Station boundary rider William Charles Loxton. William Loxton lived at this site from 1878 to 1881 when the area was known as ‘Loxton’s Hut’. This eventually became the town of Loxton.
