Gemtree Wines is a third generation family owned winery, certified organic and biodynamic.

Bordered by the hills and the coast, Gemtree’s sustainably built tasting room takes in elevated views over McLaren Vale to the ocean beyond.

Located at the tasting room is the Gemtree Biodynamic Hut, an informal interactive experience providing visitors with a deeper understanding of biodynamic viticulture. Adjacent to the tasting room is the 1km Gemtree Eco Trail, a meandering path through 10 hectares of regenerated natural bush land, offering visitors a connection to the surrounding land that inspires Gemtree’s gilding philosophies.

Visitors to Gemtree Wines can choose from a number of experiences that deliver a perfect blend of nature, food and wine only 45 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and 15 minutes from the pristine beaches of the south coast.

Discover the flora, fauna and wildlife of Gemtree along the Gemtree Eco Trail. Learn about biodynamic grape growing and wine making at the Biodynamic Hut, enjoy a tutored tasting of Gemtree’s wines, and indulge in a private dining experience prepared by the award-winning chefs at the nearby Salopian Inn.

The Wine and Wander experience begins at Gemtree’s Tasting Room where you are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine, unparalleled views across McLaren Vale to the sea and your own personal tour guide. Before your epicurean lunch and leisurely stroll through Gemtree’s Eco Trail, you will be treated to a personalised explanation of Gemtree’s organic and biodynamic philosophies and private wine tasting experience.

The Gemtree Eco Trail has been lovingly restored from a degraded creek line into a biodiverse conservation area with six interlinking dams and 50,000 native plants over 10 hectares. Your secluded dining table is at the end of the Eco Trail, under majestic gum trees surrounded by native Australian bushland – a haven for native birds, plants and animals. An unforgettable food and wine experience in unforgettable surroundings.

Gemtree Tasting Experiences can be self-curated or if you prefer, leave it to them and they will guide you through a selection of their wines.

Their Tasting Experiences are conducted seated at your own individual table. To ensure they can accommodate you and your companions, bookings are essential and groups are capped at a maximum of six people.

The wuldi or eagle in Ngarrindjeri language, soars high above us, observing the land and the people, keeping its watchful eye over how we protect the environment.

Join Ngarrindjeri elder, Mark Koolmatrie to walk the Gemtree Eco Trail, a place of natural beauty, sharing the ancient stories of his people and exploring our responsibilities of caring for the land, waters and eco system.

Mark Koolmatrie of Kool Tours is a Ngarrindjeri elder who is passionate about continuing the work of the wuldi upon the ground, nurturing the environment and teaching the connection to self through nature. Mark is the winner of the 2021 South Australian Landcare Award for Indigenous Land Management.

Mark says, “Walk in parallel with the land, the land speaks to you if you allow it to”.

Join Mark as he invites you to look upon the environment around you through a cultural lens. Make a connection with the land and perhaps even uncover the legacy you want to leave.

Finish your experience with relaxed conversation, a native food plate and optional flight of Gemtree biodynamic wine while you take in the natural beauty of the Eco Trail.
