Benalla Cemetery Historical Walk

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Benalla Cemetery is rich in Australian history and has approx seven thousand burials.

The cemetery is divided into denominational sections, for easy reference.

Benalla Cemetery Historical walk allows visitors to take in graves of historical significance. There are markers along the ground that make it easy to follow the trail.

Some graves form part of the Ned Kelly touring route and are very significant, these are Joe Byrne (member of the Kelly Gang), Jane and Thomas Lloyd (Ned Kelly’s aunt and uncle) and Corporal Sambo (tracker from Queensland).

Tours around the cemetery are self guided or group guided tours can be arranged through the Benalla Family Research Group.

Maps can be collected from the Benalla Visitor Information Centre.
