Discover Melbourne’s best living art galleries on Fit City Tour’s Laneways Discovery Running Tour. This small group tour explores Melbourne’s rich history, guiding runners through Melbourne’s famous laneways to visit some of the city’s most impressive landmarks. Along the way, your Melbourne city tour guide will share the story behind each building and alleyway.

During the tour, you’ll explore what makes each laneway unique. Along Bank Place, you’ll check out Melbourne’s oldest pub, Mitre Tavern, while taking in the beauty of buildings built from proceeds of the 1850’s gold rush. Your tour guide leaves no stone unturned, leading runners through Melbourne’s most hidden alleyways while sharing the stories of the not so savoury events that took place there long ago.

About halfway through the tour, you’ll stop off at one of Melbourne’s best donut stops to refuel and hydrate before continuing on your laneway journey.

As you reach the end of the laneways tour, you will jog by Melbourne’s bustling Degraves Street, known for housing some of Melbourne’s best cafes. There, you’ll take it down a notch and enjoy a cup of Melbourne’s best coffee together before walking the two-hundred metres back to Federation Square.

This two hour walking tour operates daily at 9:00am and is best started on an empty stomach. You’ll begin your adventure at Federation Square. From there, you’ll be immersed in the stunning laneway street art, weaving in and out of Hosier Lane and AC/DC Lane, named for Australia’s most famous rock ‘n’ roll band. Together, the group will meander through Queen Victoria Market, the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere, exploring the fresh, diverse offerings of the 600 small businesses there.

Throughout the city tour, you’ll visit some of the laneway’s most beloved coffee and donut shops, stopping to satisfy your sweet tooth at eateries such as Short Stop and The American Donut Kitchen. On this riveting city tour, runners will learn all about several true crime stories that took place on the pavement beneath their sneakers. Led by your very own Melbourne tour guide, this rather eerie tour has more plot twists than your favourite true-crime podcast.

This 9km running tour, operating daily at 9:00am, begins at the city’s cultural hub, Federation Square. This venue for the arts sits on the edge of Melbourne’s central business district, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy a variety of restaurants and shops. As you embark on an adventure of mystery and intrigue, you’ll visit the scene of the horrific 1921 Gun Alley Murder and share stories of Melbourne’s most infamous serial killer, Frederick Deeming, better known by the name Jack the Ripper. Along the way, you’ll visit the vibrant Chinatown, Little Lon – a narrow back alley and small cottage that once housed the city’s brothels, and the Old Melbourne Gaol, once a prominent jail, offers runners a glimpse into the bluestone building that housed some of history’s most dangerous criminals.

Beginning at Federation Square, an iconic venue for the arts nestled on the edge of Melbourne’s central business district.
