Entertainment Venues

Section 8 is as ‘Melbourne’ as it gets.

Set on the site of a former carpark with seating made from recycled timber pallets and a converted shipping container as a bar, Section 8 has become one of the city’s most iconic venues. Known internationally but loved by locals, Section 8 has received accolades spanning New York Times to the Guardian.

Section 8 had humble beginnings as an eco-friendly, temporary pop-up laneway bar in 2006. The locals loved it so much that it became a permanent fixture.

Section 8 continues to play a pivotal part in Melbourne’s thriving independent music and arts scene. With international touring artists, exhibitions, markets, workshops; and genres from live hip hop to experimental jazz, Section 8 should be first in your Melbourne list to experience the diversity and excellence of the city’s creative community.

The beverage range is diverse, with cocktails celebrating local botanicals and distilleries, and an extended range of local wines and craft beers and non-alcoholic options available.

The atmosphere at Section 8 is relaxed and casual. The venue is wheelchair accessible, LGBTQIA+ friendly and welcoming open to all.

Entry to Section 8 (including events) are completely free.
