Turtle Path at the Peter Kennedy Reserve Muckatah

National Parks and Reserves

Peter Kennedy Reserve is a 4.5-hectare remnant of Plains Grassy Woodland, named after founding member of the Muckatah Landcare Group Peter Kennedy.

The Reserve was seen to have the potential to be enjoyed by the community and be utilized as a resource for educational purposes.

Thanks to the countless amounts of effort from the dedicated members of the Muckatah and District Landcare Group, who over the past years have stock proofed the site, planted seedlings, carried out weed control and scattered nesting boxes throughout the reserve in an effort to not only provide habitat for native birds but improve the overall condition of the Reserve and allow for the maximum diversity of native vegetation species.

Other features include: Turtle Path an All-Abilities Walking Track, takes form in the shape of a Murray Turtle which winds its way around the Reserve, hidden to the naked eye this track only visible from aerial view. Interpretive information board and map which provides a history of the reserve and the plants/animals it contains. The Reserve lies alongside the naturally occurring Muckatah Depression and is prone to flooding during wet seasons.
