Just a 45 minute drive from Melbourne’s city centre, discover the astonishing beauty and diversity of more than 170,000 individual native plants at the Cranbourne Gardens. You will find them displayed in settings that capture the essence of Australia’s diverse landscape from the Red Centre to the coastal fringes.

The Australian Garden comprises 11 precincts and new facilities including a visitor kiosk at the northern end of the garden, boardwalks and viewing platforms on Howson and Gibson Hills, and an amphitheatre for education programs and performances.

It is a place where you can explore the evolving connections between people, plants and landscapes. The Australian Garden is also a place where you can discover inspiration and information about how to use Australian plants in your garden.

Celebrate National Eucalypt Day with a guided walk with one of our passionate Horticulturalists, Russell Larke, and discover the Gardens’ Eucalypt collection. Experience a traditional water ceremony followed by an introduction to the incredible diversity of flowers, foliage, bark and forms of the Mallee Eucalypts. Learn about the unique characteristics that make these trees great additions to any garden, and get tips on how to care for them as they grow.

A Eucalypt seedling will be available to take home to get you going and growing.

Join for a free walk to identify some of the birds often spied in the Australian Garden and hear stories about how they have shaped the forests and wildflowers of Australia. Listen and look for birds flying, feeding and nesting as you explore the Garden with your guide.

Get on your bike and join a guide to explore Cranbourne Gardens. Weave through the landscape for over 6 kilometres, with stops to hear wonderful stories about the remnant bushland. Keep a lookout for some of our local wildlife along the way and end your ride with a drink at the Boon Wurrung Café, included in the tour.

Journey around the Australian Garden, experiencing its wonder through sight, colour, sound and smell on this special trip designed for a child’s view.
