Wadjemup Museum

Galleries, Museums and Collections

The Wadjemup Museum is a place for visitors to explore and learn about Rottnest Island’s rich history. Walk around the newly renovated museum and discover a range of exhibits including 40,000-year-old artefacts, vintage postcards, contemporary artworks, and incredible outdoor sculptures.

Developed in partnership with the Rottnest Island Wadjemup Aboriginal Reference Group, the Wadjemup Museum shares the history of the Island through stories about imprisonment, natural history, arts and culture, and contemporary milestones like how the island was used for quarantine in 2020.

See large items like the old lighthouse keeper’s jacket and whale bones, marvel at the intricate detail on seaweed collages and step back in time with images and stories of holiday makers enjoying the island over the last century.

There are more than 17 displays to explore, plus a theatrette, audio experiences and an interactive touchscreen for kids.

The Wadjemup Museum is inside the old Mill and Hay Store, located behind the Rottnest Bakery and General Store in the Settlement.
