North West Shelf Project Visitors Centre

Agri, Mining and Industry

A unique visit to the impressive North West Shelf Natural Gas Project provides an opportunity to witness Australian history in the making.

Representing the largest oil and gas development in Australia, it accounts for more than 40 per cent of the country’s oil and gas production. Take a walk through the visitor centre near the entrance to the gas plant to gain an appreciation of its sheer size. Located on a rise, the centre provides spectacular panoramic views.

Spend time wandering around the centre viewing models of the platforms and interesting displays. Sit down to enjoy an award-winning movie that conveys the story of the gas project and its development.

Whilst the general public is unable to visit the enormous gas plant on the Burrup Peninsula or the platforms off the coast, the centre provides an extremely insightful look at the gas project.

The North West Shelf Natural Gas Project Visitors Centre is a 15-minute drive from Karratha. The natural red rock along the drive is spectacular as is the prolific display of colour from wildflowers in season. Visitors can take a two-hour flight from Perth to Karratha.

Opening hours are seasonal so it is best to call ahead to check.
