Birding South West

Birding South West conducts guided bird watching tours in the South West of Western Australia, focusing on the many endemic species of the region.

The South West region of Western Australia is home to more than 250 bird species, 15 of which, including five parrots and cockatoos, are endemic to the South West; that is they are found nowhere else in the world.

Other notable endemics include the stunningly beautiful Red-eared Firetail, the Red-winged Fairy-Wren and the White-breasted Robin.

Their tours range from half day tempters right through to fully accommodated 16 day expeditions, as well as personalised tours looking for particular species or to specific locations.

Tailor made specialty tours are also designed and conducted for other parts of Australia and are available on request.

For full and half day tours you are collected from your accommodation and taken to a number of local hotspots where host and guide, Peter Taylor, showcases the wonderful avifauna of Australia’s South West.

All tours include morning tea.

This eight day fully accommodated tour begins and ends in Perth and takes in a range of habitats including urban wetlands, open wandoo woodland, sandy heathlands, the Stirling Ranges and tall karri forest.

Birding South West hope to see over 130 species of birds including all 13 endemics (though the nature of birding of course precludes guarantees!).

This morning tour is designed to see a range of local endemic species including Long-billed (Baudin’s) Black Cockatoo, Red-capped Parrot, Western Rosella, Red-winged Fairywren, Red-eared Firetail and White-breasted Robin. Maximum of four guests, morning tea is included.

This tour is an extension of the morning tour but travels further a field to search for additional species such as Western Corella, Western Thornbill and Western Spinebill. Maximum of four guests, lunch is included.

This full day tour is designed to see a range of habitats in the Perth area, including urban wetlands, jarrah forest and woodlands, the coast and the Swan River.

Expect to see 80 to 110 species depending on the season and the weather. Maximum of four guests.
