Cullen Wines – Biodynamic Wine Room
Food and Drink Wilyabrup, Busselton, Western Australia
Kevin and Di Cullen planted a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966 to form Cullen Wines. The encouraging results of this led to the planting of 18 acres of vines in 1971, including their first Cabernet vines. Daughter Vanya Cullen, took over the winemaking in 1989 and Cullen Wines has evolved into an estate specialising in single vineyard, premium quality wines focused on wine integrity rather than rapid expansion.
The vineyards are grown using biodynamic techniques. The restaurant overlooks the historic vineyard and in keeping with the organic philosophy in the vineyard, all dishes are prepared using fresh, organic produce that is sourced from their own garden and select local producers.
The Cullen Biodynamic Wine Room is open for sales and wine tasting seven days and the restaurant is open Friday to Tuesday. Executive Chef, Ben Day, designs dishes inspired by the best produces from the unique Cullen Biodynamic Garden.
Seated tastings are available and bookings are required.
The WA Good Food Guide is a celebration of all that is excellent in the Western Australian dining scene across all areas of cooking, entrepreneurship, wine, beer and service and this is what they have to say about Cullen Wines – Biodynamic Wine Room, part of The Top 100 list – “A finely aligned experience that speaks of Margaret River’s past, present and future.”
