Kevin and Di Cullen planted a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966 to form Cullen Wines. The encouraging results of this led to the planting of 18 acres of vines in 1971, including their first Cabernet vines. Daughter Vanya Cullen, took over the winemaking in 1989 and Cullen Wines has evolved into an estate specialising in single vineyard, premium quality wines focused on wine integrity rather than rapid expansion.
The vineyards are grown using biodynamic techniques The restaurant overlooks the historic vineyard and in keeping with the organic philosophy in the vineyard, all dishes are prepared using fresh, organic produce that is sourced from their own garden and select local producers.
Grape varieties include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Wines produced include Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Mangan and Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot.
The Cullen Bioynamic Wine Room is open for sales and wine tasting 7 days and the restaurant is open Friday to Tuesday. Executive Chef, Antoine Deunff, designs dishes inspired by the best produces from the unique Cullen Biodynamic Garden.
Seated tastings are available and bookings are required.
